Global
Mission/Outreach - Wiping God's
Tears: Our Response to Global Poverty
Our Rector,
The Rev.Jay R. Lawlor, has been involved for a decade in eliminating
global poverty and disease -- since his days as a development
economist at Harvard University. He has brought that passion and
his experience to his ministry as a priest and to our parish.
Since 2005 St. Paul's has been actively engaged in advancing the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) -- eight time-bound goals
-- to end extreme poverty and disease in our world. We have partnered
with Millennium Promise to help provide resources to develop sustainable
villages in Africa.
The MDGs have quickly became a mission priority for the wider
parish as our 2005 efforts saw widespread support that enabled
us to provide mosquito bed nets --to protect families from malaria
-- for over half of the households in the village of Koraro, Ethiopia.
We are currently looking to expand our involvement with Millennium
Promise in developing longer-term partnerships in Africa toward
achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Our 2007 MDG campaign
will "kick-off" as part of our 2007 Stewardship campaign,
Fulfilling the Promise. We we will hold a special in-gathering
of MDG donations on our MDG Day -- November 12, 2006. On June
3, 2007 we will celebrate our partnership with our Millennium
Villiage and look to how we can further that relationship.

"Wiping God's Tears" is inspired by an address given
by Archbishop Desmond Tutu at the Global Reconciliation forum
at Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) on April 6, 2002. The Global
Reconciliation forum was created and co-organized by Fr. Jay while
he was a seminarian at EDS.
